Paradise Bay Sarasota Bay Boating & Fishing Club Meeting Notes

The meeting was called to order at 9:00am by President Ron Prieskorn. There where 63 members present.
Ron Led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and then recited the Fishermen’s Prayer.
Ron then asked for a motion to accept the minutes that were available to review placed on the tables. The minutes were accepted and approved by the attendees.
Chris Matteson introduced Ken Huinga who thanked all the volunteers that stepped up to help with the Frank and Bean dinner.
Chris then asked the club if anyone had the recipes for the fish fry. Please contact Chris if you have any information about the recipe.
Chris also thanked Mike Dunn and Dave Brown for heading up the kayak committee and getting the ball rolling to install a kayak launch.
Scotty Yates gave the dock master report, Scotty report 10 new slip assignments and that the boat list has 26 members on the wait list. He also thanked Don Vogel for rearranging of the boat yard to get 10 new trailer spots. Scotty explained that he is working on the plans to add a kayak launch to our water front with the help of Dave Brown and Mike Dunn.
Ron then addressed the moving of club banking to the Paradise Bay bank account. There were several members that expressed concerns. Ron then explained that we would gather more information and present it at the next meeting. We will also have a vote next meeting about the bank accounts.
Ron then explained how to get on the new phone app and that instruction sheets were on each table. The app called TeamReach will connect all the members of the club to each other for last minute up to date information. Other clubs in the park are already using the app.
Ron asked for a motion to add a one day fishing contest for Kayakers. Ricky Bear made the motion and Dave Brown seconded it. The club took a vote that passed unanimously.
Dan Wilder then spoke about a boat excursion February 24th ( rain date will be February 27th). Dan will lead the boaters to Marina Jacks in Sarasota for lunch, then a leisurely trip back from Sarasota to paradise Bay. Contact Dan Wilder, for more details, find his number in the phone book.
Ricky Baer was recognized for managing the Coast Guard boat inspections. Ricky then spoke about the inspections and reminded everyone that fire extinguishers expire after 12 years. Ricky also recognized Gail Noren for receiving a 100% on the written test given after the Coast Guard boat training class.
Ron then announced that the CPR/AED class was cancelled because of staffing issues at the Coast Guard.
After some exchange of information, Ron announced the next club meeting will be February 28th at 11am.
Kevin Sullivan Read the monthly financial report and talked about the accessibility of the information. See Report below. Kevin discussed some off the issues regarding the transfer of boat and fishing club banking to Paradise Bay account.
Stan Hillenbrand read the January fishing contest winners George Mullen read the one-day fish contest.
Ron then explained our Vice President, Chris Matteson will be retiring and the club is asking for nominations to replacement Chris. Ron also told the club he would like to accept nominations for club President, as he, also, would like to step down. Nominations can be made any time before or during our next meeting. A vote will be conducted for these positions at the next meeting.
PB/SB Club had two boat trip drawings, one for a boat trip on the Bay with Tom and Dee Billings won by Margie and George Rogalski the other a fishing trip on the bay won by Ricky and Peggy Baer. Congratulations to both winners. We will be selling tickets for two more trip at the next meeting.
We then had an auction for a few items that Larry Blank received from local merchants for our club. Ricky Baer was our auctioneer and made a fun and exciting time of the auction.
We had a nice Penn Rod and Reel that went to Rod Kramer.
Then a nice gear bag with some fishing lures inside, went to Jack Whitaker.
We also auctioned off a large 5-gallon jug that was sold to Scotty Yates. Scotty donated the jug back to the club and it was reauctioned off to Gary Crist

Paradise Bay Sarasota Bay Boating & Fishing Club Meeting Notes

The meeting was called to order at 9:00am by President Ron Prieskorn there where 39 members present.
Ron Led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and then recited the Fishermen’s Prayer.
Ricky Baer arranged to have two speakers from the Coast Guard to address our club about the boat inspections and the boating safety course. The boat inspections will be on 1/28 at 8am at the docks, the boating safety class will be on 1/22 at the annex in the rec hall, time will be 8am to 3pm. The cost is $40.00 per person or couple. The club with split the coast with club members. You must sign up for the boating class, see a club board member to sign up.
George Mullen read the meeting notes from the December 6th meeting. With no additions or corrections, the minutes were approved.
Ron then gave out a new text system for contacting each other in the club, to get set up for club notices and information Text 81010, (message) @pbsbbo. When you set up your information set yourself up as a parent.
Ron then talked about giving your old fishing gear to Jerry Miller at 12 on 7th st.. He provides fishing equipment to needy children,
Ron then talked about the fishing app Fish Rules, that will keep you updated on current fishing regulations in our area. then reminded everyone they need to have current year dues paid to win contests or be a witness for the fishing contest.

Chris Matteson wished Everyone a Happy New Year; he also reported all thirteen committees for our club have a chair person to lead them. He thanked everyone for their volunteering.
Chris thanked Beverly Blank for the donation of a freezer to store our fish for the fish fry. He asked if anyone knew of a place to store it. Chris explained how club boating trips and fishing trips were going to be raffled off. Tickets are $10.00 and sold at many events, the winner will be drawn at next meeting.
Ken Hulinga spoke about the need for volunteers at the Frank and Bean dinner and passed around a sign-up sheet.
Scotty Yates gave the dock master report, he said there are only 20 or so people on the wait list since the board approved the $100.00 sign up fee. Scotty informed everyone he will be setting down with each new slip renter to review the rules of the boat slips. Scotty then reviewed the boat launch ramps along the bay front. He said ramp at 106th street is out of order and dangerous and don’t use it. The gravel ramp area is to shallow for boat launching but might be ok for kayakers. The ramp at 5th st has been replaced this year and might be a learning curve on the first launch, but good to go after your first launch.
Scotty thanks Don Vogel and all the other volunteers that got the new ramp completed.
He also asked to be respectful of other boaters waiting to launch their boat and not to tie up the ramp for extended periods of time.
Scotty then thanked everyone for their help with locking the boat yard gate and keeping the chain locked at the boat ramp.
Tressure: Kevin Sullivan Gave the Financial report there were no corrections or additions. Kevin talked about T-shirt price increase with our next delivery, and today’s meeting was the last chance for a $25.00 shirt after today shirts will be $30.00. Kevin Gave out Fish contest money.
We had an auction for a few items that Larry Blank got from local merchants for our club. Auction was very exciting with our new President doing the auctioning off.
50/50 drawing of $44.50 was won by Bill Sullivan.

The meeting was called to order at 9:00am by Vice President Chris Matteson with 42 members present, Chris lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for Larry Blank and others we have lost.
John Kalman Lead the Club in Prayer
Ken Hulinga spoke about the Frank and Bean dinner, Ken explained the ticket price will be $8.00 or 2 for $15.00 this year due to covid and the soaring inflation that everyone has experienced, He also passed a Sheet around for volunteers to help prepared and serve food.
Secretary George Mullen: Read 11/8/22 Meeting Minutes, there were no additions, Minutes were accepted as Read.
Vice President: Chris Matteson asked for any other President nominations, there were none, Chris then asked Ron Prieskorn who was nominated at the November meeting to introduce himself.
Ron Prieskorn spoke to the club about the process of finding Paradise Bay though his Wife Sues research to find a great place to retire, and his past experiences as a cross country school coach. A vote to elect Ron was led by Chris Matteson, every hand in the crowd went up in approval and the crowd cheered!
Treasurer: Kevin Sullivan Gave the monthly Treasurer Report, there were no questions or addition to the report.
Kevin also discussed the Clubs New shirt sales and finances. He then reviewed rules about fishing contest winners and witnesses being current club members.
Chris Matteson then spoke about the many aspects of the club needing Chairs for the following activities.
CPR/AED, Coast Guard Aux, Kayaking and fish fry.
Chris then spoke about the red tide and how it might affect the Fish Fry, it was decided to table that conversation till the January Meeting.
Chris then introduced the Boating and Fishing Trips that would be raffled off for club donations, Jim Gath and Tom Billings have both volunteered to take winners on a cruise of Beautiful Paradise Bay. Stan Hellbrand had volunteered to take raffle winners fishing, Chris asked for one more volunteer to take winners fishing.
Chris also asked for a volunteer to lead a Kayak group to lead Kayak activities.
Scotty Yates gave the dockmaster report, Scotty reviewed the wait list procedure and night time security, Scotty talked about the many cameras though out the park and the security system in the boat yard. Scotty thanked the many volunteers that worked on the new boat ramp to get it completed.
Scotty also reviewed boat yard procedures like never lock your trailer or block the wheels because of the trailers needing to be moved at any time, like the past hurricane.
Scotty explained that the boat yard alarm system is on from dusk to dawn and not to enter the boat yard at that time.

The meeting was called to order at 9:00am by Vice President Chris Matteson with 47 members present, Chris lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for Larry Blank and others we have lost.
Secretary George Mullen: Read April 2022 Minutes and then Read Dock Master Scotty Yates Notes in his absence. George also spoke about the (Fish Rules) app to view current fishing regulations.
Vice President: Chris Matteson spoke about What’s in a Club, Friendship, helping each other and enjoying our park relationships. Chris then asked for nominations for club president, Ron Prieskorn was nominated, Ron is considering acceptance.
Chris spoke about the fishing contests and that the newest rules were posted on the Board by the water front. Chris also introduced Stan Hellbrand as our new fish contest manager, Chris will need some help managing this aspect of our club and could use some help, please contact him if your so inclined. Chris also introduced Cathy Mullen as the clubs Shirt and Hat sales manager.
Treasurer: Kevin Sullivan Gave the monthly Treasurer Report,
Kevin discussed the Clubs New shirt details, and thanked the committee that help with the design, including Sheila Gilstrap’s grandson that created the design on the back of the new shirts.
Jim Gath spoke about the Boat assist list, and asked members to notify him of their availability if it changes so he can keep list updated.
Tom Gath Spoke about all the features and information on the Paradise Bay Sarasota Bay website. Tom also reviewed much of the helpful content that can be viewed there.
Ken Huizinga and John Kalman will be managing our Frank and Bean dinner in February of 2023. They will need six volunteers to help in the kitchen and will have a signup sheet at our next meeting in December

The meeting was called to order at 9:00am by President Larry Blank with 46 members present.
Secretary: March Minutes were Read.
Vice President: Chris Matteson spoke about the Easter Dinner and passed a clip board for volunteers to help. Chris also thanked Sandy VanEtten, for the donation of a Penn Rod and Reel that was won by Steve Lucas. Chris also spoke about needing volunteers to chair the various activities in the Boat and Fishing Club.
Treasurer: Kevin Sullivan Gave the monthly Treasurer Report, and Awarded Fishing Contest Prizes to the Winners,
Kevin discussed the Clubs New shirt design ideas, after several ideas from the membership were expressed there was a committee formed to finalize the design.
That committee includes, Sheila Gilstrap, Jim and Sharon Elias, Joyce and Gee Stepansky, and Joey Stewart. The shirt design will be finalized by the committee and orders will be placed for delivery before the 2022 – 2023 season.
Harbor Master: Scotty Yates Spoke about several items,
Thanked the new Board Members for Volunteering to be on the Boating & Fishing Club
Reminded everyone about new slip rules which can be read on line or get a copy at the office
All Dock slips are now filled even though there were four recent vacancies
He also stated the $100 fee to get on the current list is helping manage the list.
Summer dock & slip storage is available to co-op members and to contact him if interested
He Thanked Everyone who help with the Beautification project along the Water Front
He also Reminded everyone not to Lock their trailer and keep the latch Up so trailer can be moved, to lock the boat launch chain soon as your done launching boat and to keep gate locked at boat yard when coming and going.
Next years Dock bills will be mailed out October 1st and are due by November 1st
President: Larry Blank spoke about the new club activities for the 2023 boating season. Larry had several rods n reals on display from local businesses. These were donations for raffles next year. Larry is also talking to the same retailers about the possibility for discounts on purchases with these retailers for our club members when they show their Boat & Fishing Club membership card. The participating Retailers making these donations where Ace Hardware, West Marine and Discount Tackle.
Larry also spoke about Boat & Fishing Club seminars for Fishing and Boating interest.
Such as Off Shore, In Shore Fishing, Rod Repair, Line Weaving, Safety Classes, GPS Training, Bait & Tackle and even Sea Food Preparation which seemed very popular.
He also talked about connecting Boaters and Fishing members with other park members to explore these experiences together and build comradery.
There will be a lot of new experiences for the Club members to enjoy and opportunities to learn next season.
