Ladies’ Friendship Club Meeting Minutes Dec. 14, 2016
Meeting was called to order by Heidy Kiess, president, at 12:35
The luncheon was served for 26 members and guests following a poem and prayer by Sylvia Fenton, chaplain.
After the meal, the meeting began with Heidi introducing the officers: Heidy Kiess, President, Sally Seighman, Vice-president, Joyce Nicholson, Secretary, and Phyllis Cook, Treasurer.
Members & guests were welcomed and guests introduced themselves.
Joyce read the minutes from the last meeting, Mar.9, 2016, and presented thank you notes for gifts and donations from Activities Committee, FELT, and Sandra Barei, past president. Minutes were accepted as read with a date correction of todays’ meeting.
Treasurer’s report showed a new balance on hand of $2,729.25 and dues were collected. The report was approved as read and Phyllis asked that all monies collected be turned in to her for recording so we have a history of it.
There was discussion about inviting others from SaraBay and about ways to communicate our meetings to them. Phyllis said she would make a flyer and take over to their Rec Hall.
OLD BUSINESS:
Heidy asked for a critique of the recent bake sale to improve the next one. It was recommended to have a table outside at the February Bazaar. This would be placed in the vicinity of the “Trash to Treasures” sale to attract more sales from those who do not come into the Rec Hall. Jean Colson recommended having a canopy to cover the food table outside, and Phyllis Cook volunteered the use of hers.
Discussion followed regarding the success of the raffle basket and the bake sale. The raffle raised $161.00 net.
NEW BUSINESS:
Marilyn Stace suggested we try something new for a fundraiser, such as a fashion show, or doing a cookbook. The fashion show would be handled by a store called “Christopher Banks” and they have offered to put it on the calendar for Mar 1. We would need to have models and probably refreshments. After some discussion, a motion was made, seconded and approved to go ahead with the Mar 1 fashion show, with cookies as refreshments. The cookbook was determined by the discussion to be a good idea but will it was decided it will be put on hold until next year. No one volunteered to chair this project.
Heidy gave a description & explanation of Turning Points. She is still getting a lot of items for veterans, so interest is still high to help them. We will fill bags with items to replenish their backpacks from last year….the list of items needed is on the box in the Rec Hall.
It was reported that a $100.00 memorial was given and that was spent for backpack supplies.
The next meeting will be held Jan 11, 2017 at 12:30pm with Sally Seighman in charge.
Discussion of those which we would like to donate to was tabled until the next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respetfully submitted, Joyce Nicholson

Ladies’ Friendship Club Meeting Minutes -- Jan 11, 2017
Meeting was called to order by Sally Seighman, Vice-president, at 12:32 pm.
The luncheon was served for 24 members and guests following a poem and prayer by Sylvia Fenton, chaplain.
Joyce Nicholson announced the minutes from the last meeting were sent to members via email, and posted on the activity board in the Rec Hall to be viewed by those not having email addresses. The minutes from the last meeting, Dec 14, 2016, were accepted as received and posted. Note: After the meeting, Secretary, Joyce Nicholson noted an error in the date of the previous minutes. The date was listed as Dec. 14, 2017 and should have been Dec 14, 2016, so it has been corrected in the official final copy maintained by the secretary.
The Treasurer’s report showed a new balance on hand of $2,893.86. Dues were collected from current & new members. The report was approved as read.
New members & guests were introduced and welcomed.
OLD BUSINESS:
The fund-raiser fashion show we voted to have on March 1st is in need of getting organized and no one has stepped up to chair the project. Sally indicated we are in need of committees, one for refreshments and another to organize the actual fashion show. She asked for volunteers, and having none, the group made a motion to postpone the fashion show until we could have more time to organize and get volunteers for this new venture. It was approved by the group to postpone the event, probably until next year.
NEW BUSINESS:
Discussion was held regarding which charities we would like to donate money to at this time. Phyllis reported we had previously donated to FELT (Feeding Empty Little Tummies), St Joseph’s food pantry, Our Daily Bread, a local Girls Basketball team, the local fire department for scholarship. Another suggestion was a local Women & Children’s Shelter. Everyone agreed that would be a good idea, but did not know the location or name of one. Joyce Nicholson volunteered to research the availability of one and check with them for their needs, either money or items, such as diapers, etc.
It was approved by a vote of the group to increase donations at this time to $250.00 for each of FELT, St Joseph’s, Our Daily Bread; also to give items or money equal to $250.00 to the local Women’s shelter. After discussion about Turning Points needs of laundry and cleaning supplies, it was approved to set aside $100.00 for them, to be determined if this would be in the form of supplies we purchase, or money for them to purchase on their own. The total approved by the group to donate at this time was $1,100.00 with decisions to be made at the end of the season for future donations.
The group agreed to do the gift basket raffle again at the next bazaar Feb 4. Lynn Jones, 44-1, and Arlene Sharpsten, 25-H volunteered to accept donated items and wrap them into the basket.
There were multiple questions asked about what we are continuing to collect for others, and it was reported to all that we continue to collect plastic caps and no further backpacks, but we still collect items for refilling last year’s backpacks. The list of items needed, and a box for the collection, remains in the Rec Hall main room. Wendy Graf shared that she has made a plea on our behalf at the Sarasota Bay coffee hour, and has collected multiple washcloths, towels, and other items for Turning Points. She will continue to invite them to donate, and also to attend & become members of our group.
With no other business to discuss, it was announced the next meeting will be held February 8, 2017 at 12:30pm and the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce Nicholson, Secretary

Ladies’ Friendship Club Meeting Minutes – Feb. 8, 2017
Meeting was called to order by Heidy Kiess, President, at 12:30 pm. The luncheon was served for 33 members and guests following a poem and prayer by Sylvia Fenton, chaplain.
Guests and new members were introduced to the group and welcomed.
The Treasurer’s report showed a new balance on hand of $2,6. Dues were collected from current & new members. The gift basket raffle brought in $158.00. The bake sale earned $381.17. The Basket was won by Susan Ross. No one in attendance appeared to know her. Donations of $250.00 each have been sent to FELT, St. Joseph’s Pantry, and Our Daily Bread, as voted last month. The $250.00 voted to be sent to a Domestic Abuse shelter has not been issued yet. The report was approved as read.
OLD BUSINESS:
Joyce shared information about the local Bradenton Domestic Abuse Shelter, Hope Family Services. Handouts were shared about their mission, services, and needs. As voted last month, Phyllis will send $250.00 donation to them at this time. The group showed interest in continuing to help them in the future with possibly collecting things on their wish list which have a focus on the children. Their thrift store which provides them with free clothing and household items is located at 1215 8th Ave. W in Bradenton for those who want to donate women’s or children’s clothing for the shelter. They do not take clothing donations at the center itself.
Heidy Kiess gave an explanation of Turning Points and their needs for new members and guests. She will spend the $100.00 already voted on for laundry supplies, esp. bleach and she requested $150.00 for the purchase of items needed to refill packs for the homeless veterans. This was voted and approved by the group.
Susan Miller asked for a donation for the Southeast High School Girls Basketball team, as we have given $100.00 before and it has been greatly appreciated by them. A motion was made to increase that donation this year to $200.00 and it was approved by the group.
For the fund-raiser fashion show, Heidy & Marilyn agreed to chair the event. See Page 2 for an outline of details & responsibilities of those who volunteered. Scheduled for March 1st 1:00 PM at the Paradise Bay Rec Hall. Phyllis has tickets for sale and anyone can take some to sell if they wish…the deadline for the end of sales is to be Feb 25 so we can plan for amount of tables and refreshments. Judy Cashe asked for more models and got additional volunteers. They will go to Christopher & Banks on Tuesday, Feb 21 at 10:00 to pick outfits and be fitted.
NEW BUSINESS:
Group discussion related to the Community Yard Sale was held. Date is March 4th, 8am – 1pm We will again have items for sale: donated yard sale items, coffee and muffins, etc. for breakfast, hotdogs and drinks for lunch. Several volunteers are needed to work, price, & setup on Friday. Also need persons to work on March 4 to sell items. A signup sheet was circulated and many volunteered to fill those slots. See page 3 for a copy of the signup sheet. Heidy mentioned to the members we should consider doing a cookbook next year for a fund-raiser and asked members to think about bringing 3-4 recipes back with them next season.
With no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned as many members stayed to fill bags for the homeless veterans utilizing Turning Points One-Stop Center.
Next meeting to be held Wednesday, March 8, 12:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted, Joyce Nicholson, Secretary
