Ladies’ Friendship Club Meeting Minutes – Feb. 8, 2017

Meeting was called to order by Heidy Kiess, President, at 12:30 pm.  The luncheon was served for 33 members and guests following a poem and prayer by Sylvia Fenton, chaplain.

Guests and new members were introduced to the group and welcomed.

The Treasurer’s report showed a new balance on hand of $2,6. Dues were collected from current & new members.  The gift basket raffle brought in $158.00.  The bake sale earned $381.17.  The Basket was won by Susan Ross. No one in attendance appeared to know her.  Donations of $250.00 each have been sent to FELT, St. Joseph’s Pantry, and Our Daily Bread, as voted last month.  The $250.00 voted to be sent to a Domestic Abuse shelter has not been issued yet. The report was approved as read.

OLD BUSINESS:

Joyce shared information about the local Bradenton Domestic Abuse Shelter, Hope Family Services. Handouts were shared about their mission, services, and needs.  As voted last month, Phyllis will send $250.00 donation to them at this time.  The group showed interest in continuing to help them in the future with possibly collecting things on their wish list which have a focus on the children. Their thrift store which provides them with free clothing and household items is located at 1215 8th Ave. W in Bradenton for those who want to donate women’s or children’s clothing for the shelter.  They do not take clothing donations at the center itself.

Heidy Kiess gave an explanation of Turning Points and their needs for new members and guests.  She will spend the $100.00 already voted on for laundry supplies, esp. bleach and she requested $150.00 for the purchase of items needed to refill packs for the homeless veterans.  This was voted and approved by the group.

Susan Miller asked for a donation for the Southeast High School Girls Basketball team, as we have given $100.00 before and it has been greatly appreciated by them.  A motion was made to increase that donation this year to $200.00 and it was approved by the group.

For the fund-raiser fashion show, Heidy & Marilyn agreed to chair the event.  See Page 2 for an outline of details & responsibilities of those who volunteered. Scheduled for March 1st 1:00 PM at the Paradise Bay Rec Hall.  Phyllis has tickets for sale and anyone can take some to sell if they wish…the deadline for the end of sales is to be Feb 25 so we can plan for amount of tables and refreshments. Judy Cashe asked for more models and got additional volunteers.  They will go to Christopher & Banks on Tuesday, Feb 21 at 10:00 to pick outfits and be fitted.

NEW BUSINESS:

Group discussion related to the Community Yard Sale was held.  Date is March 4th, 8am – 1pm We will again have items for sale:  donated yard sale items, coffee and muffins, etc. for breakfast, hotdogs and drinks for lunch.   Several volunteers are needed to work, price, & setup on Friday.  Also need persons to work on March 4 to sell items.  A signup sheet was circulated and many volunteered to fill those slots.  See page 3 for a copy of the signup sheet.  Heidy mentioned to the members we should consider doing a cookbook next year for a fund-raiser and asked members to think about bringing 3-4 recipes back with them next season.

With no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned as many members stayed to fill bags for the homeless veterans utilizing Turning Points One-Stop Center.

Next meeting to be held Wednesday, March 8, 12:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,   Joyce Nicholson, Secretary
