Ladies’ Friendship Club Meeting Minutes
April 11, 2018
Heidy opened the meeting at 12:30 pm and welcomed everyone. 22 members and guests were present.
Sally Seighman offered a prayer and Lunch was served.
Minutes of the previous meeting were reported to be emailed. Joyce noted it was in need of a correction & the corrected copy was posted on the bulletin board and club website.
Treasurer’s Report was given by Phyllis Cook. $1735.03 cash on hand. Heidy reported we gave $3,100 to our charities this season.
Old Business:
Heidy gave information to Sue Cassidy regarding the purchase of the new can opener for the kitchen. The group voted to give Sue Cassidy the authority to purchase a new one per the information received.
Joyce N. reported on the Thrivent grants our club received via Sue Miller and Joyce Nicholson. The total was $1,000 this season, with $500.00 used to purchase items for the homeless veterans packs and kits for new home move-ins. $250.00 of the amount was used to assist a shareholder with roof repair after hurricane damage. A new grant of $250.00 was received by Joyce and needs to be allocated/spent in the next 6 weeks. Jean Colson suggested that we may want to consider baskets or carriers for the bicycles. Heidy suggested we ask Turning Points what they most and then spend the money for that. It was moved, seconded, and approved by the members present to do so. Heidy will follow up.
Heidy mentioned she is leaving her volunteer position doing laundry at Turning Points so it is open if anyone wants to volunteer.
Military Bracelets are almost all sold. Profit was used to purchase bikes for Turning Points. It was reported that 26 bicycles were donated to Turning Points this season and a special thanks goes to Roger Jones for transporting them to the One-Stop Center.
New Business:
Sue Cassidy reported that she makes trips approximately 2-3 times weekly to Turning Points and Our Daily Bread. Anyone wishing to donate food items, particularly as they pack up to leave for the North, just contact her. She indicated they willingly accept even items that have been opened.
There was discussion about can recycling and the members were informed that the twin Price sisters in the RV park have a can crusher and bin outside their unit on Crepe Myrtle where you can go crush your cans. They donate these, with others, to organizations in need.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 pm.
Next meeting will be Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 12:30 pm
Respectfully submitted,
J. Nicholson, Secretary
