Minutes of February 28, 2022 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Carl Kerr at 10:00 a.m.
Pledge of Allegiance was recited
Prayer was said by Donna Matteson
Present were: Jim Gath: Co-President, Carl Kerr: Co-President, Shana Simison: Vice President, Karen Rimatzki: Secretary, Wendy Graf: Treasurer, Donna Matteson: Board Assistant and 15 members.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes of the last meeting were previously emailed, posted on the bulletin board in the Paradise Bay Hall and copies handed out at the meeting. There were no additions or corrections so the minutes will stand as posted. Karen R. told us that some of the information on the Paradisebay.info website is out of date. She would like everyone to review their Activity/Club description and tell her what changes might be needed. When the information is updated, she will post a hard copy on the bulletin board in the Rec Hall.
Treasurer’s Report: Wendy Graf said the balance is $9,335.42. However, there has been expenditures approved in the amount of $3,500 which leaves $5,835.42 available. The report will stand as read.
Co-President’s Report: Carl K. mentioned he attended the Sarabay Coffee Hour to inform them about Bayfest.
Vice President’s report: Shana has tickets for the Luncheon. She said that anyone who would like to sell some, to see her after the meeting.
Old Business
Bayfest-Melissa C. from Pickleball said she has 10 people for each shift at 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 12-2 p.m. to serve the luncheon. The luncheon will be served in the Paradise Bay Annex. There will be tables and chairs set up outside. The games will be in the pool area and by the bike rack. The winners of the games will receive a red ticket they can put in one of the eight coffee cans for a chance to win a prize. There will be grand prize raffles. There will be cash raffles, too.
New Business
Nominating Committee-The positions of Co-President(s) and Secretary are up for elections this year. The Nominating Committee will present a slate of nominees for Co-Presidents/President and Secretary to the membership at the first meeting in March. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor. Those nominated will have agreed to serve if elected. Elections will be by written ballot from the Activities' Committee members at the second meeting in March. Barbara G. and Donna M. agreed to be on the Nominating Committee. Carl K. will ask Marilyn M. if she will be on the Nominating Committee, too.
Committee reports/update
Ladies Friendship Club-Susan Miller told us that they have taken over delivering flowers to the people that are 90 years old and older on Valentine’s Day. They delivered to 19 people this year. If anyone knows someone who is in that age group, please let her know. Also, the Ladies Friendship Club will be forming a Welcoming Committee to visit new residents. That will begin in December 2022.
Blood Mobile-Susan Miller said there were 20 people on February 23rd.
Historical Committee-Brenda O. asks if anyone has heard of the west end of 4th Street called Chicken Flats. They are in the process of researching that. She told us about the “Oosie Houses” used by the elephant keepers during the 1940s & 1950s. An essay will be read at the next Coffee Hour about the history of a couple who met at Paradise Bay years ago.
Corn Hole-Dean Clark-It has started with three very successful weeks. We play on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 3-5 p.m. There is a separate entrance by the Shuffleboard Courts. They will be participating in Bayfest.
Boating and Fishing Club-Chris M.-The next meeting is tomorrow, March 1st. They are still looking for a new President.
Shuffleboard Club-Chris M.-Last Friday was a great Hawaiian Night under the Stars with more than 60 people. They served food. Next Friday, will be Shuffleboard under the Stars.
Euchre-Mary F.-Every Monday starts at 6:30. They are up to 14-16 people.
Golf-Jim G.-They golf at Pinebrook. There are 20-24 people who play.
Mahjong-Wendy G.-Fridays at 1-3 p.m. There is an instructor. There were 11 people last week.
Water Aerobics-Jean C.-She told us the cd player they use is not working right so she purchased a new one that costs $58.00. Wendy G. made a motion to reimburse Jean for the cd player. Mary F. seconded the motion. It passed unanimously.
Pickleball-Melissa C.-They have 122 members. Last week, a Pro did a clinic for 20 members. Last Friday night, was their Annual Party with over 100 people. Courts are filled all day, every day with one and a half hour time slots.
Dance-Debbie G.-Shana told us that Lew Russ will come again next year for another Activities Committee fundraiser on February 25, 2023.

Minutes of February 14, 2022 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Carl Kerr at 10:00 a.m.
Prayer was said by Dan Smith
Present were: Jim Gath: Co-President, Carl Kerr: Co-President, Shana Simison: Vice President, Karen Rimatzki: Secretary, Wendy Graf: Treasurer, Donna Matteson: Board Assistant and 21 members.

Treasurer’s Report: Wendy Graf said the balance is $8,812.63. However, there has been expenditures approved in the amount of $3,500 which leaves $5,312.63 available. The report will stand as read.
Co-President’s Report: Jim G. told us the permit for the electronic sign has been approved so we are just waiting for it to get made. Jim G. mentioned the Parade for Bayfest will be a Disney theme. If possible, decorate your cars, golf carts, bicycles, etc. accordingly. Carl K. thanked Wendy and Donna for cleaning out the shed with the Bayfest supplies. Carl K. said the self igniters have been installed on the burners of the stove. He said he cleaned the burners and rubbed olive oil on them, as per the instructions. Susan M. requested a laminated set of instructions on how to light the burners be put up where everyone can see them. Carl K. said he would do that. The refrigerator stopped working. Jim G. thanked Carl K. for his help in obtaining a new refrigerator in time for the Luncheon on Saturday, February 5th.

Old Business
Bayfest-We need to presell tickets for the lunch to have an idea of how much food and supplies to purchase. Carl K. estimated it would cost $1,280.00 for the lunch items and a total of approximately $1,500 including other items. Therefore, if we charged $7.00 for the lunch and sold 300 tickets, that would total $2,100 which should cover all the expenses. The lunch will be a choice of Pulled Pork Sandwich, Hamburger or Hot Dog with chips and a root beer float or other drink. There will be Gumbo sold separately. Everyone was in agreement for charging $7.00 for the lunch.
Marilyn M. will make signs to be posted around advertising all the events during the day of Bayfest.
Barbara G. and several others will be soliciting donations from local businesses for the prizes. She would like to know which businesses have been contacted so no one contacts them again. Carl said Costco has agreed to make some type of a donation but isn’t sure what that will be.
It was decided to charge $1.00 for 4 tickets for the games. Wendy purchased candy to be passed out during the Parade. Also, there are beads that will be tossed during the Parade. Wendy asked for volunteers to stay after the meeting to bag the candy and sort the beads. Several people agreed to do that.
Jim G. told us he has awards to give to the winners of the best decorated vehicles in the Parade and the winners of the Golf Cart Rodeo.
Deb R. told us that Randy D. approved having yard signs put up advertising Bayfest.
New Business
Committee reports/update
Memorial Service-will be on February 20th at 6 p.m. in the Paradise Bay Rec Hall. Shana is gathering names of deceased residents. She mentioned that people should be a dish to pass.
Craft Show-Jean Colson told us the Craft Show held on Saturday, February 5th was a success. The people from the Office were extremely helpful with set up, putting the sign up, regulating the temperature in the Hall, etc. Linda F. was very helpful in advertising the Craft Show. There were 17 vendors. Jean presented the Activities Committee with a check for $230.
Ladies Friendship Club-Susan Miller told us that there will be a Hot Dog Sale on Saturday, March 12th at Sally S.’s at 4 J St. during the Park Wide Sale. Also, in the kitchen there is a blue container with rags in the bottom corner cupboard. Please use them to clean up the floor, etc. instead of the towels or dish cloths. Carl K. mentioned that some people will be cleaning the hood to the stove on Thursday night.
Blood Mobile-Susan Miller said it will be here on Wednesday, February 23rd at 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Anyone donating blood will received a OneBlood long sleeved T-Shirt and a $20 gift certificate. Please spread the word. Last time there were 18 donors.
Bingo-Joyce Farrington said the profit from Cash Awards for January was $271. She presented a check to the Activities Committee in that amount. There is a new seating arrangement with 6 chairs for each table and 2 more tables to allow more space for everyone.
Shuffleboard-Chris Matteson said the Courts are done being repainted and will open this Wednesday. This Friday evening will be a celebration of the Courts being reopened with a Shuffleboard under the Stars at 6:30 p.m.
Boating & Fishing Club-Chris Matteson told us they are looking for a new President. If anyone is interested or knows anyone who would like to be the President, please let him know. George M. will be replacing Sheila as the new Secretary.
Corn Hole-Chris M. told us that Dean Clark at CM 10 will be in charge of Corn Hole. Everything is set up by the Shuffleboard Courts to play, now.
Pickleball-Melissa Coleman-There will be no Dunk Tank at the Bayfest so we don’t need volunteers for that. Also, no grills are needed from them. Servers for the lunch are still needed starting at 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and staying after to clean up. The Wind Guard has been installed that prevented the water from getting on the courts. We now have 110 members. They use the TeamReach app which is very helpful.
Dances: Lew Russ will be here on Saturday, February 26 at 6-9 p.m. Also, the Cigar City Smokers food truck will be serving 4-8 p.m. This will be a fundraiser for the Activities Committee.
Historical Committee -Brenda Ocenasek-She still needs pictures of all the activities. She would like pictures of the beginning of the Corn Hole activities. Eventually these will be part of our history. She would like 2 or 3 people to be willing to take pictures at the different activities. Pictures can be sent by email or on a flash drive or hard copy.
Art Class-Marilyn Morrisey-The Art Show will be on Sunday, March 20th at 1-3 p.m. in the Paradise Bay Rec Hall. We are meeting on Tuesdays & Thursdays in the Helms House. Everyone is welcome.
Cortez Fishing Festival is February 19 & 20, 2022
Carl K. reminded everyone to turn in your ballots and proxies.

Minutes of January 24, 2022 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Carl Kerr at 10:03 a.m.
Prayer was said by Brenda Ocenasek.

Present were: Carl Kerr, Co-President, Karen Rimatzki, Secretary, Donna Matteson, Board Assistant and 13 members.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes of the last meeting were previously emailed, posted on the bulletin board in the Paradise Bay Hall and copies handed out at the meeting. There were no additions or corrections so the minutes will stand as posted.
Treasurer’s Report: Wendy Graf was absent so Karen Rimatzki gave the report. The balance is $8,773.69. However, there has been expenditures approved in the amount of $3,500 which leaves $5,273.69 available. The report will stand as read.
Co-President’s Report: Carl K. stated that the Ladies Friendship Club did a wonderful job of deep cleaning the kitchen last week. However, Carl thinks the stove needs to be cleaned professionally so he will speak with Kathy, the Park Manager, about having that done. Electronic ignitors have been ordered for the stove. Donna M. mentioned that the burners have begin to rust because they are cast iron and have not been cleaned properly. They need to be dried and seasoned after each use.
Bayfest is still being planned. It will be held by the pool area. Jean C. mentioned that in the past we had a Dunk Tank but the water was very cold. Therefore, it would be nice to be able to warm up the water.
We are waiting for a permit for the electronic sign.

Committee reports/update
Bingo-Joyce Farrington stated that there were 109 people last Monday compared to 86 the week before.
Craft Show-Jean Colson told us it will be on Saturday, February 5th. She introduced Linda Fortier as her Co-Chairperson. Jean asked if it would be alright to have one of the vendors set up outside due to Covid concerns. Everyone thought that would be fine.
Dances-Debbie Greeves-The dance Friday was very well attended. Information and the schedule for the Dances and Food Trucks are posted in Sarasota Bay and Paradise Bay Rec Halls. There are still 15-20 season tickets available for sale. All donations from the Dance on February 26th with Lew Russ will be given to the Activities Committee.
Pickleball-Melissa Coleman-We held our Annual Meeting, we now have 87 members. We have introduced two new Pickleball 101 Sessions. We can only have 20 people and both sessions are full. There is a problem with the wind blowing water on the courts from the sprinklers. The wind screen would cost $360.00. The Pickleball Party will be on February 25th. There might be a 50/50 raffle that proceeds would be donated to Activities Committee.
Euchre-Mary Fox-It’s on Mondays at 6:30 sharp with a cost of $1.00 for 7 games; there were 16 people playing last Monday.
Newsletter-Joyce Nicholson-Tomorrow, February 25th is the deadline to submit articles for the Newsletter. She requested information about Pickleball. The Italian Dinner has been canceled. Coffee Hour is the 1st & 3rd Monday. The Activities Committee Meeting is the 2nd & 4th Monday. There was some confusion about the starting time of the Sunday Service. Carl said he would have Shana contact Joyce. Also, the Health Fair is canceled but there might be some handouts distributed. Joyce will check with Susan M. about that.
Historical Committee -Brenda Ocenasek-She attended the Welcome Reception at Paradise Bay Rec Hall and Open House at the Sarasota Bay Rec Hall. There were a couple of people interested in our committee. We are still looking for people to help our committee with filing.
Board Representative-Debra Rogers-She texted Randy Darr about the wind screen at the Pickleball courts. He said that the Board of Directors and Park will pay for all or part of the wind screen.
Shuffleboard-Donna Matteson-They will be hosting an Amateur State Tournament on January 31st all day. Anyone can play. It is necessary to preregister in advance at the Shuffleboard Court.
Set up of tables & chairs for Events-Donna Matteson-She is in the process of developing a schedule for setting up or removing tables & chairs for events, if it isn’t being done by Maintenance.

Minutes of January 10, 2022 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Carl Kerr at 10:00 a.m.

Present were: Jim Gath, Co-President, Carl Kerr, Co-President, Shana Simison, Vice President, Wendy Graf, Treasurer and Karen Rimatzki, Secretary plus other members.

Treasurer’s report was given by Wendy Graf. The balance is $8,957.16. However, there has been expenditures approved in the amount of $3,631.56 which leaves $5,325.60 available. The report will stand as read.
Co-President’s report-Jim G. said he is able to have an email sent to all the people who are registered with the Office. If anyone would like information sent about their Activity/Club, please send an email to Jim G. The Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival is still in need of volunteers. Therefore, Jane V. from their organization will be speaking at the next Coffee Hour. Jim G. mentioned that in order to receive emails from Paradise Bay, it is necessary to register on the website. Also, he would like to have a website training session with his brother, Tim G., at a Coffee Hour, when his brother returns from a trip. Carl K. mentioned that Jane H., Sarasota Bay Activities Committee, will speak at our next Coffee Hour. Also, he mentioned that on January 16, 2022 at 1-3 p.m. is Sarasota Bay Welcome Open House. If you would like to promote your Activity/Club, you may attend. Jim G. informed everyone that is it up to the discretion of each Activity/Club to determine where and how they would like to conduct their meetings and activities in regards to safety protocol.
Vice President’s report-Shana Simison-there is a PA System for anyone who would like to use it for a meeting or activity. It is in the Office.
Old Business
Bayfest: March 5, 2022 The tents are fine. Menu: Pulled pork, hot dogs, Italian sausage, chips, popcorn, root beer floats and pop. The food will be served outside in the pool parking lot. All events will be outside. Parade will be the usual morning event. There will be fireworks at sunset. We still need volunteers for the games.
New Business
40th Annual Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival on February 19-20, 2022-volunteers. Discussed in Co-President’s Report
Committee reports/update
Dances-Debbie Greeves-they will be donating funds to the Activities Committee from some of their dances. They will be selling Season tickets for $25 on Thursday, January 13th at 1-3 p.m. at the Rec Hall. Information and the schedule of the dances and food trucks is posted in Sarasota Bay and Paradise Bay Rec Halls.
Boating & Fishing Club-Kevin Sullivan-they are going to be selling t-shirts with a new design that is more universal for the Park. There will be a raffle for a Coast Guard Tapestry. All the dinners have been canceled. If you would like a refund, you need to return your ticket. If you would like to donate the purchase price, that can be done. They are selling the old t-shirts for $10. All the Fishing Contests are still on. We will be looking for a new President and Secretary. We are trying to find out if there is any interest in a Kayak Launch.
Luminaries-Anita Cook-She thanked all the people who assisted her. She needs someone to be a Co-Chair with her.
Ladies Friendship Club-Susan Miller-We will be cleaning the kitchen on January 19th and 20th. During the Craft Sale on Saturday, February 5th, we will be having a luncheon, bake sale, and raffle. Our Style Show has been canceled.
Health Fair-Susan Miller-There will not be a Health Fair, this year. Blood Mobile will be here on Wednesday, February 23rd.
Bingo-Joyce Farrington-they donated $189.00 from the Cash Awards proceeds.
Craft Show-Jean Colson-will be on Saturday, February 5th. The cost of a table is $10 for residents and $15 for nonresidents.
Newsletter-Joyce Nicholson-She is limited to 12 pages, so please submit just basic information. This is an Activities only newsletter. Articles may be submitted any time before the 25th deadline.
Line Dancing- Flo Callahan-It will start on Tuesday, January 11th at 2 p.m. under the Carport behind the Office. It will continue on every Tuesday unless the participants would like it changed.
Board Representative-Debra Rogers-The Office might have a storage cabinet available for the Corn Hole equipment. The Board is giving the Library $300 and adding it as a line item on the Budget.
Corn Hole-Wendy G.-we are looking for a leader(s) to run this activity.
Mah Jong-Wendy G.-is every Friday at 1-3 p.m. in the Annex.
Sunshine Club-Wendy G.-meets this Friday, January 14th at 11 a.m. at the Helms House.
Bid Euchre-Susan Miller-will start this Friday, January 14th at 6:30 p.m. in the Annex. If anyone would like to play or learn to play, please attend.
Euchre-Mary Fox-on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. in the Annex. We play 7 games for $1.
Water Aerobics-Jean Colson-classes are at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. She will be attending the Sarasota Bay Open House to promote it. Jean will find out if anyone would like to do the Duck Races for Bayfest.
Debra Rogers asked if we know what we are doing with the old Board on the Rec Hall. There hasn’t been a decision, yet.

Activity Committee Minutes from Meeting on 12/27/2021
The meeting was called to order by Carl Kerr at 10am
Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Wendy Graf gave the Treasurers report with a motion to accept the report made by Tom Farrington and seconded by Jean Colson, all in favor.
Tom Farrington states there have only been 3-4 people attending Horseshoes.
Wendy Graf reports that materials will be bought this week to start construction of the Corn Hole Boards.
Also, there was a $500 donation to the Activities Committee by Bocce.
We want to invite folks from Sara Bay to the Para Bay coffee hour, we will put this in their newsletter.
Tie Blankets are being made in the Sara Bay Rec Hall every Monday at noon, everyone is welcome.
Joyce Farrington says Bingo needs more volunteers for calling.
Jean Colson says the next Craft Bazaar is Saturday, February 5th and is in the newsletter.
Water Aerobics is getting more people and they need more pool noodles and hand weights, asking the Activities Committee to purchase these. Also, would like for the pool to be uncovered before class starts at 9am. Carl Kerr will talk with Kathy, the Park Manager to see what can be done about getting it uncovered.
Donna Matteson reports for Boat & Fishing Club that they do not want to take down tables after their meeting for the next activity. Joyce Nicholson would like to know who is in charge of table setups. There is no person in charge of this and Carl Kerr states he will talk to Kathy in the Office about making sure Maintenance sets up for Bingo.
Bayfest is March 5th and is in need of volunteers. Carl Kerr will talk to Jim Gath about speaking to some people about volunteering.
The Welcome Reception is January 7th from 1-3pm. All Activity Chairpersons need to attend to represent their Activity and answer any questions that new residents may have. Volunteers are needed to bring some refreshments. This is in the newsletter.
Jean Colson is concerned about COVID. The Board of Directors will follow CDC guidelines.
